Well researched Hetalia OCs by NyanNeko15 Well researched Hetalia OCs by NyanNeko15
Well anyways when it comes to Hetalia OCs it's all about doing research, there are some Hetalia OCs that are good and some that are not, really when it comes doing a Hetalia OC for a country you don't know of,that means you have to get facts first before you draw your OCs,seriously though,if you're going to do a Hetalia OC you have to do as much research as possible, that means by getting you info on the country's religion, culture, people, relations with other countries, history, ect.
if you do a Hetalia OC you should be showing respect for the people who live there,i think getting research is more important than drawing the OCs,plus you don't want your Hetalia OC being called a Mary Sue or a Gary Stu.

If you don't know anything about most countries, I would recommend you to make an OC for an made up country.

This is very true. I came across an Amsterdam/Rotterdam OC, and I was very offended; being from Nederland myself, the only thing we're addicted to is licorice. Not a single one of my friends or myself are druggies, so don't think everyone from Nederland is! They had the OC as blonde haired, blue eyed stoner. And the name wasn't even Dutch.

Me and my pal made an Antarctica OC.

We did our research and made her a cousin of Russia, so she looks a bit like him, wears thick clothing, and gave her the surname of a Russian scientist that studied there.

I know. I almost got myself in an arguement because of an underdeveloped OC, but then I decided to be the bigger person. :3

Mexico does have a large white population, but Hetalia's theme is national stereotypes/personifications. Not saying that in a bad way...it's just one of the things that makes Hetalia Hetalia. For example, in real life, Germans have many phenotypes. But blond and blue-eyed fits the common stereotype of Germans, so it makes sense for Prussia to be blond and blue-eyed, regardless that there are many Germans with dark hair and dark eyes (my German ancestors were mostly dark-haired, though a few had red hair).

Still, Hetalia's characters don't always represent the phenotype of the majority of a country. Hetalia depicts France as blond, and most French people IRL have brown hair. Red hair is actually relatively rare in Italy despite Hetalia depicting Italy as a redhead. (Well, at least they didn't make him blond and blue-eyed, although blond hair is more common in Italy than red hair.) Most Turks are nowhere near as dark as Turkey from Hetalia.

Sometimes I've seen people trying to relate Latin OCs to Shakira especially Columbia OCs
